I hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend. It may not have been obvious from the outside, but there are some neat things brewing under the hood here at Home-Ec101.com.
First of all, March 1 marks the start of my fifth year here on Home-Ec 101.
What? Really? Can it be? Have I really been writing about food, laundry, and toilets for that long? That’s not the scary part. The scary part is my stack of topics that I still want to cover. Since starting this site it has never been man, what will I write about? Rather it’s been how can I cover this aspect and leave the rest to wait? I have some big and exciting plans for this year and I hope you hang on for the ride.
Home-Ec 101 the book is now out on both the Kindle and the Nook. The physical copy should be out mid-March. I’m not sure when the date will be updated on the Amazon page. Heck, both of the e-reader releases were surprises. If there is another format you would like, please feel free to make a request and I’ll pass it along to my publisher. If you’ve already read the book on either the Nook or Kindle, an honest review would be highly appreciated. It would help people who stumble upon the book while browsing know what they are missing or maybe it’s a warning on what they would be getting into.
Here on the site itself I’ve added two new features. First I’ve added a new category: Read It, which consists of short posts that link to other articles and posts related to home economics. Perhaps it is a recipe that catches my eye, it may be an article on nutrition, or it could also be crafts or decorating -since you won’t catch me actually writing about those topics. These posts are all quite short and intended to send you to another site, if it piques your interest. I’ve organized it so this category has its own feed and those posts do not get sent out with the daily newsletter. My goal isn’t to overwhelm anyone, but to still keep it accessible. If you just want to check it up from time to time, there’s a link up in the red navigation bar, too. I’m going to change the layout slightly for that category so the focus is on the featured items.
The other addition to the site isn’t quite ready for general consumption, but some of you have been asking for forums. They have been built, they are functional. I’m hoping to have them ready for everyone on March 1. If you would like to help get them ready for launch -testing out the features or making suggestions- just send me an email Heather @ Home-ec101.com.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
