Shower Curtain Wash-up

November 20, 2007 by Badbadivy

Dear Home-Ec 101,

Could I throw a plastic shower curtain in the washing machine? Mine’s really dirty and needs to be washed, but it’s too cold to take it outside and wash it like I have before.

Thanks,

Short answer: yes.  I usually use a warm water cycle and I throw a towel in the wash cycle to help scrub up the shower curtain. If the towel is white, you can even throw some bleach in with it to help disinfect the curtain.

Once it’s finished washing, don’t put it in the dryer, just hang it back up in your shower with it fully closed to dry thoroughly.

Thanks for your question!

That is so funny you write about this because I was just thinking the other day as to whether or not I should wash my kids shower curtain. It is filthy.
    Thanks for the tip!

This came up on a group that I am involved with just the other day. That is exactly how I do mine and I do my bath mat the same way. Works like a charm, just dont forget the towel and dont put them in the dryer.

New reader here, LOVE the site!

I put mine in the washing machine (delicate cycle) with a cup or two of white vinegar & it comes out spahkling!

I’ll try the towel idea next time!

Thanks for your idea. My way of cleaning shower curtain is using detergent and baking soda. Here’s my procedure of cleaning shower curtain
