The last few weeks, I’ve felt like I was slogging through molasses just trying to get the bare minimum done, much less the extra that makes it onto the site.  Last night I broke through the inertia and made two batches of enchilada sauce (one was an experimental gluten-free version). Those will be posted early next week. I need to get on the ball if I expect to be able to brine a turkey in time for this year. If not, we always have next year. Yes?

Looking over this week in years past, the focus was heavily on Countdown to Turkey Day, so I’m placing Retro Saturday on hold until after Thanksgiving.

I have a new side project for the site that should make assembling your grocery list from recipes here a cinch. Stay tuned. I’m pretty excited.

What about you? What have you been up to? Have you adjusted to the time change, or do you still feel as though you are out of sync with the world?

  1. Gluten free enchilada sauce? Awesome! I have many friends/acquaintances who are gluten intolerant, so I'll definitely share that recipe w/ them (I already tell people about the site. All.The.Time)

What have I been up to? Why? What have you heard? *eyes Heather suspiciously* (This counts for Sunday confessional, too, okay?) Ok, so yeah, I have stopped repressing my inner Trekkie and have been re-watching the movies and the original series (on CBS.com) to get my Spock & Kirk fix, and I've been trying my hand at writing some Trek fanfiction. I've got ideas for quite a few, but the going is slow. My brain had become capable of communicating only in 140 characters or less, so I felt the need to force myself to write actual sentences which turned into paragraphs and even stories. It's helping to get my creativity going again after being buried too long.

Today I'll be cooking a turkey, mashing taters and cooking cranberries for a Thanksgiving-ish dinner tomorrow at my in-laws. Maybe I'll write a bit in between — Good times 🙂

  2. I have been sick for over a week, so I totally understand "slogging through molasses." If I could get my coughing under control, I might actually make progress on getting better.

I have a question. Is there any reason you couldn't brine your turkey for Christmas dinner if you don't make it for Thanksgiving? That way, you wouldn't have to wait until next year.

Have a better week this week.
    Hugs,
    Melinda

  3. We had our fisrt snowfall of the season, nine inches. Nothing like easing into it. And we had a nine hour power outage to go with it. Kinda derailed me for the weekend, I'm afraid. Hubby is going on 4 months with pnuemonia. We are tired of the antibiotic roulette routine. We are having our very first empty nest Thanksgiving, no one is invited, and we are having BBQ pork spareribs. So there, LOL! Love reading along about the turkey, though, becasue the perfect turkey is elusive in our kitchen.
