Funky swimsuit. And by funky, I do NOT mean James Brown funky.

in All, Reader Questions, Wash It

    Dear Home-Ec 101,

I’m getting ready to go on vacation and I couldn’t find my swimsuit. Well, I finally found it, but the situation is not good. I found it wrapped in a towel in a backpack. The good news is, the backpack’s fine, but the swimsuit smells horribly funky. Can you help me make my swimsuit smell good again, PLEASE?

    Signed,

    Funktastic in Frankfort

When I was discussing this post with Heather, she pictured the swimsuit being so funky all the fish in the ocean died. It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, and at the very least you don’t want to smell like a swimming pool died on ya, so let’s get that suit clean.

Wash the suit with either borax, baking soda, or washing soda. Use vinegar in the rinse cycle. If you’re like me and forget the rinse cycle, put the vinegar in your Downy ball. Smell the suit before you put it in the dryer, and if it still smells funktastic, wash it again, using the same procedure. It should smell fine after the second go-around, if you even have to have a second go-around.

    Have fun on vacation!

2 rounds with vinegar saved a friends beloved blanket from cat pee. You should be fine with this one. Good luck and Happy Vacationing.
