Four Years of Home Ec 101 Goodness

Heather says:

Four years ago I was scared. Was this a project people would be interested in? Would people care at all about what we had to say? Well, I’m still here plugging away four years later.

Today I’m launching the Home Ec 101 Forums.

Some of you have been asking for forums for a long time, but I was a little gunshy. We had forums way back in 2007, but the evil perv spammers ruined the place. I’m a little wiser this time around.

So go ahead, jump into the forums, say hi and introduce yourself on the introduction thread. I’ll be around most of today to make sure  the launch goes smoothly. You see, as with any aspect of self-improvement, like an exercise regimen or a diet, becoming a more capable adult is pretty personal. It’s hard to get our spouses and friends excited about little accomplishments and milestones, but here and on the forums? We’ll be celebrating with you. Did you decide to try a new recipe? Great! Share the experience. I’ll talk about food all day long, it’s what I love. Have you set a goal to declutter your apartment? Someone out there has the same goal and wants an accountability partner. Challenge each other, I guarantee you’ll have better results just knowing someone else is working with you. So jump in, say hello, and let’s get started. My goal is to have a space where chatting is encouraged and questions are answered.

In other news. . .

Home-Ec 101 the book should be released in two weeks. Two weeks! Did you read that? Two weeks. I wish I could tell you the exact date, but it hasn’t been confirmed. Want to know something even crazier? Home-Ec 101 will be distributed in Canada, the UK and Australia. To borrow a friend’s term, I have no file for that. I’m excited.

It’s been an incredible ride.  Almost 1.5 million people have visited this site.

Thousands of you have downloaded the printable weekly chore chart.

And I can’t tell you how many kind emails I’ve received over the past few years thanking me for the site. I do not have words to express how gratifying it is to know that slowly, I’m accomplishing the goal of helping adults learn the skills that make life a little easier, a little less expensive, and a little more enjoyable.

You guys are amazing, I can’t thank you enough for the support you’ve given over the past four years.

Thank you. I’m looking forward to the future.

Been a happy reader since 2008 (proof: http://tripleventi.com/2008/05/16/friday-foccacia… , but honestly… I can't believe it has been that long already. Boy does time fly. I feel like I have a special preview since I already have "Home Ec 101 – The eBook" but I will certainly ad the physical edition when I find out the schedule of your whirlwind book signing tour. 😉 But in the meantime… off to the forums.

This site is so needed and you are such an inspiration to me. I've loved watching all the changes on Home Ec 101 over the last couple years and getting to know you a little bit at a time. I really appreciate how down-to-earth this site is, and how it doesn't make me feel like there's something wrong with me when I can't do something. With the forums now, and the book release so soon…..wow. Where can we get tickets for the HOME EC 101 WORLD TOUR?? Coz, Heather – you rock. You rock so hard.

So, so, so proud of you Heather!! I've been around since the beginning. I remember when I was first told about the site before it was even launched. I knew back then that it was an incredible idea with a lot of potential. Your hard work, determination and good old fashioned moxie have taken this site way beyond what I ever knew was possible. Congratulations!!!
