Fearless Friday 7/17

I have been homeless this week while my husband is finishing our floors. Well, we're staying with friends, which means I'm chasing a toddler around a non-baby-proofed house, alas. The best I can say I've done is to actually make some meals rather than going out for every meal, which we can't afford. I think I just need to be fearless enough to endure this life upheaval right now...I'm pooped and pregnant and nauseas, and getting emotional!

I'm not much of a cook, and when I mean not much, I mean never...luckily I have an amazing wife who cooks for me, but she was out sick the last couple days which meant I have to feed the kids..not good for the kids, right? Well I ended up cooking 2 dinners and 1 1/2 lunches...so that's my fearless feat of the week..

I'm quarantined to my apartment due to severe strep throat and hadn't had anything but soy ice cream and broth made from better-than-bullion to eat since tuesday afternoon (thanks to good friend Joe for picking up the ice cream and other necessities). so I decided to make that packet of top ramen that was sitting in the back of my cupboard. I put the water on to boil, put in the powder and noodles and go off to grab my phone with the intention of setting the timer. but I get a text, reply, get another text, reply to that... next thing know I'm running back into the kitchen to find that the pot has maybe a 16th of an inch of water left in it, the noodles are mostly cooked but still brick-shaped and burned on the bottom! friday fail.

I added water to lift the burnned stuff from the bottom, left it to soak for a bit, then came back and realised I was so hungry I needed to eat it anyway. I left the really burned bits in the pot, but it wasn't all that terrible and now I can take my rx strength ibuprofen. fearless friday!

Well, I was supposed to make a massive graduation cake this week (to feed 150 people, 3 tiers, covered in fondant, etc.) but the party was canceled and now I've got lots of ingredients and nothing to do for a couple days, since I took off work to make this cake.

So yes, I've had a friday fail is well!

I cooked (and ate!) fava beans for the first time! And yes, they are a bit of a pain, but really very tasty.

I don't know how fearless this is, but I made it a whole week without going out to eat. That is making 6 dinners in a row. Almost a record for me I think.
