The Sunday Confessional: March 1

Heather says: turns two today. It’s been a fun ride, over 500,000 visitors, 1020 posts, 7,583 comments, 3 designs, 2 authors, and one heck of an audience. Thank you for being a part of our adventure.

As human beings we spend much of our lives trying to live up to self-imposed ideals, we often fall short. It can be a relief to admit our faults and reassuring to see others struggle. The confessional is now open and don’t worry, I’ll go first.

I quit cloth diapering. I always hear about people who discover cloth diapering with their last child, well I’m the polar opposite. Yes, I still think it’s a great thing to do, I’m just burnt out.

I love a blistering hot shower, especially when the kids have worn me out. Twice this week I have locked all the dead bolts, popped in a movie, bribed the oldest to stay put for a few minutes, turned out the lights, and revelled in scalding bliss. I know it’s bad for my skin and the utility bill, but it’s so good for my sanity.

I’m so slow. Happy Birthday HE101! How exciting.

I burned out on cloth diapering, on number 3, too.

I used to have this sign on my bathroom door.. it said something like “I’m okay. No, I don’t need your help. No, I don’t want you to keep knocking. Sit right there. Just do it quietly.” or something like that. I stored books in there.. and escaped often. They often sat, whined, cried, yelled, whatever, right outside the door.. and I let them. 🙂

Remember, I had locks on their doors. It really was to keep them out, more than IN.. to keep the room clean.. but try explaining that when someone see’s the locks. *giggle*

My confession: My kitchen is trashed. Dishwasher is finally clean. Both sinks are full. Dishes all over. Two big pots of HM soup, HM red beans and rice, and a crock pot running with tonight’s venison.. I’m just working around the mess, and cleaning the cutting board, now that I’ve run out of clear glass plates.. I have more plates.. I never chop on them. I don’t know why. I hate it when my main dishwasher child is “sick.” *expletive* *giggle*

Oh, and I haven’t done any laundry, in a week. I think. Last laundry is still in the basket, in front of the dryer, needing to be folded. I bet there are wet clothes in the washing machine, too. I’ll check the washer. The dry clothes can just sit there.

I have been productive.. it just doesn’t show around here..

I swear I will upload those hockey game pics today, too.

I was great about using cloth diapers…as long as I had a diaper service. After they stopped coming to my area, I tried to buy my own and wash, but failed miserably.

As for a current confession? I can’t do housework for more than 45 minutes at a time. Hey…at least I know my limits!

  3. Tracy on March 3, 2009 at 11:46 am

I bought a mini vac because I have 2 REALLY hairy dogs and all leniolium floors. This was supposed to make the clean up of tumble weeds of hairballs easier. It does when I feel like doing it lol! Happy b-day!

    Happy Birthday, Home-Ec!

I have no faults, me and my dust bunnies are perfectly perfect. LOL As I sit here in my pjs still, playing on the computer, while dh and the kids are outside cleaning off my car.

Happy 2nd Anniversary to you home-ec101! Give a gift for yourself. go to a spa. Or have a guilt-free cozy dinner!

  6. Hawaii Termite on March 2, 2009 at 7:45 am

I spend my whole day in my computer and no one with me, my wife go to office, who will take care of the house hold and take care of our kids?

  7. Angela on March 2, 2009 at 6:00 am

I spent my weekend watching my husband play computer and quilting… yes the house looks like that is what I did too, but I have a quilt top done:)

I cloth diaper because I am too lazy to go to the store and buy diapers, yup that is pretty much the only reason. I hate buying diapers and wipes.

  8. Karen on March 2, 2009 at 12:26 am

Remember when your floors hadn’t seen a mop for a month? Mine were envious. and ahem. They still are.

In my defence, (God knows I need one), I’m pretty quick on the spot wipe and I vacuum the _entire_ place twice a week.

  9. Keter on March 1, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Two days of feeling like something the cat dragged in and my kitchen turned into a science experiment. Ew. My husband has never so much as touched the dishwasher, and his record remains unbroken. Literally the first thing I did when I got back on my feet was to clean the kitchen. And I found a rock in the disposal. Not a small rock, a BIG rock. No idea how it got there. Note to self: if sick again, tape off the kitchen with crime scene tape.

Happy Birthday, Ivy and Heather Thanks for being here with us!

Andrea, I’m there about forgetting to get stuff defrosted for tonight’s dinner. But with the chicken ….. if you pop the whole frozen chicken in the crockpot on low (with maybe a half cup of water) in the morning before work, it will be falling off the bone done by 5 p.m. For real! Knowing that saved me several times in the past!

My confession today? There are Sundays I desparately want to stay home from church. I’m tired. Or I just am feeling less–than-worshipful. Or I’m grumpy and don’t want to deal with anyone. But I have to go — I’m the pastor! (So, those of you who go to church, if your pastor seems a little off ….. say an extra prayer for her or him and be extra kind. Thanks!)

  11. imabug on March 1, 2009 at 7:53 pm

my fridge has been depressingly empty for the past two weeks and i’ve been too lazy to hit the grocery store. living off supplies in the pantry and freezer and going out to eat more often than i really should.

  12. Milehimama on March 1, 2009 at 7:45 pm

Ha ha! I’m one of those who just DISCOVERED cloth diapering (child #7 is almost 2!)

The only reason I even tried it was NO money for disposables coincided with a friend giving me a box of cloth at the same time my 23 month old decided to try potty training. The perfect storm, if you will.

My other “secret”? Our latest rental has a jacuzzi bathtub in the Master – I always dreamed of having one. And I HATE it. I’ve used it maybe three times in the 8 months we’ve been here.

My girls love a “coozi” bath, though!

  13. Andrea on March 1, 2009 at 7:33 pm

My confession? I am perfectly capable of making pie crust . . . I always have all the ingredients on hand and 40 recipe variations I could follow as far as technique or ingredients are concerned, along with all of the tools required – but Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust makes me, my family – and our stomachs! – very happy.

One of these days I will remember it takes a good day or two to thaw a whole chicken and if I want to make chicken pot pie for dinner tonight, I best remember to take my chicken out of the freezer the day before. But that is another confession for another time. (at least I know what I’m making for dinner tomorrow night!!!)

    Happy birthday, Home Ec 101!!

  14. Erin on March 1, 2009 at 6:40 pm

    PS – Happy Birthday!

  15. Erin on March 1, 2009 at 6:40 pm

I haven’t done any chores today…at all. I let my husband cook breakfast, I let my son make lunch, and my husband wanted to make dinner again. I’m listening to him do the dishes right as I type this. I need to get moving and I will, but for now, these few hours were bliss!

  16. Stephanie on March 1, 2009 at 5:48 pm

I’m a magazine junkie. I know I can read for free at the library, I know they all say the same thing every month. WhatEVER – I love curling up with one.

  17. Pam on March 1, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Congraulations!! I really enjoy your site……God Bless,

Happy Birthday HE101, good on you.

There are a thousand things I should be doing – instead, I’m hangin out with hubs and being lazy in my robe — after a nice long bath.

  19. dani on March 1, 2009 at 2:34 pm

I napped for 3 hours yesterday instead of cleaning my room or finishing my midterms for school.

It felt fantastic, and it will be a long time until I get to do it again.

  20. Diaper Cakes Becca on March 1, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Once a week I will have a day where we are all total lazy butts. My husband has no idea, though. We will, literally, just lounge around the house all day doing not much of anything (this is me and our two girls…the 3 boys are at school). I will, then, spend the 45 minutes before he comes home cleaning and tidying and putting dishes up (think: whirling dervish) , etc, so he will think I have been a good little “domestic goddess” all the day long.

THAT is my secret….shhh, don’t tell anyone!

  21. Leigh on March 1, 2009 at 1:05 pm

Happy 2nd birthday! fabulous – I’m glad y’all are around.

I just ate 3 Kripsy Kreme Donuts in a row. Now I’m going to take a nap.

  22. Kendra on March 1, 2009 at 11:22 am

Lady, I hear you on the CD…I didn’t even bother with my youngest.

I’ve played hookie from church the last three weeks. We still can’t find a home.

  23. Mom of three on March 1, 2009 at 11:05 am

It snowed, we stayed home from church. I figure the kids can play and worship God in His cathedral today. I slept in. Man do I feel thankful and worshipful this morning. 😉

I don’t recycle much at all. Around here no one collects it, so I have to drive it into town myself and frankly don’t want to ride around with anymore garbage than I already do. So I don’t bother.

  24. Jennie on March 1, 2009 at 10:58 am

I love fast food. I know it’s horrible for me and a bad example to my daughter but I LOVE it.

No matter how hard I try, I can’t keep up with laundry. I try and try but I can’t seem to keep up. I think I’m okay with that, though.

  25. Nancy on March 1, 2009 at 10:54 am

I recycle as much as I can, except when it comes to the cat food cans. Can’t’ stand the smell, and hate the thought of them getting in my sink with the rest of the dishes in order to rinse them out.

  26. imabug on March 1, 2009 at 8:24 am

    woot! happy birthday HE101!

  27. Joanna on March 1, 2009 at 8:12 am

Once I figured up that I had “paid for” my cloth diapers, I became much less intense about using them. Now I end up using them about 30% of them time. Ah, well.

And I quit filling up the dog’s water bowl. Even when it’s full, she hits the toilet first. So I decided not to bother.
