Heather says:

I had grand plans of using this weekend to get ahead, to work towards my goal of having several posts in a cache. Reality has hit home, along with a virus in the kids. We’ll keep plugging along as we always do, but I’m giving myself permission to take today off. That’s a perfectly acceptable way to celebrate Labor Day weekend, right.

So own up to it. Where are you slacking or did you have any memorable goofs this week?

  1. Hmm… I think a holiday should be a day of rest.

I had a notion of going train photographing today but the cloudy skies made it sound like a much better day to stay in and watch some train videos and maybe edit some photos. That and I just felt lazy.

  2. Still finding parts of the house to clean this weekend, husband took the boys to the farm yesterday and today I think they are going fishing. Nothing too much around here.

  3. Schoolwork. I'm all caught up on the "have to do" list of assignments, but I have so many "like to do" assignments (like outlining chapters and making flashcards) that I feel a little overwhelmed. I had even set up a to-do list for each of the four days of this weekend so I wouldn't get overwhelmed, and then I proceeded to ignore it for two days. Oops. Maybe I can catch up today.

  4. I hosted a party at a friend's house Friday night. I put the jalapenos in her oven, set the timer, let them bake for the right amount of time, took them out, and hit 'cancel' to stop the timer. What I didn't realize is that I hit cancel for the oven as well. I proceeded to put the 2nd tray of jalapenos in the now-cooling oven for 25 minutes. Oops. They don't cook as well that way. LOL

  5. My beloved always races on Labor Day Weekend, so I spent yesterday having brunch, running errands and having a girl day. But starting today and tomorrow, I will be at the dusty, loud track..cheering him on, and knitting! (I have to do *something* in between races.. lol)

  6. While I'm doing better than ever in making sure DS does his assignments and is keeping proper records for homeschool requirements, and we did some canning this week, I've been letting regular housework slide. I had come up with a checklist plan and it worked okay for a few weeks, but then something threw it off and I did not make an effort to get #backontrack. Also, it hit me yesterday just how many projects I've started and then just stopped. They're all just partway done and I think that's part of why I just feel so overwhelmed most of the time. Must work on a plan to start FINISHING things!

  7. I was supposed to be making a sash for a friend's daughter's wedding dress, but I just couldn't get motivated to work with slippery satin…so instead I made a few baby things for my niece and I crocheted a tomato pincushion. Today I'm doing some housework that should have been done earlier in the week, and you can see how far I am on that. I'm still reading my blogs. I am the biggest procrastinator I know.

  9. I guess my real confession is that I've been a giant pain in the butt this week. I had to go on steroids because of my stupid allergies. . . I have learned that the "may cause mood swings" is just this side of a serious understatement. Granted I've been under a fair amount of stress, but I do not like the feeling of flying off the handle over little things. I keep telling my husband that I know it's the prednisone, but I feel like a raving lunatic and cry at the drop of a hat.
On the plus side, I can't sit still and quite a few windows and light fixtures are now sparkling. . .

    • When my mom was on that for allergies she cleaned the WHOLE HOUSE! It was a bad week for the rest of us that lived here, everything kept getting moved. The doctor said that was one of the side effects. My mom asked if she could go on it for spring cleaning each year, she said she would really get stuff done!

    • I don't know if this makes you feel better or not, but a couple weeks ago my parents had to put one of their dogs on prednisone becasue he had a skin infection. This is one of the sweetest most gentle dogs I have ever met. Well that weekend my brother and sister came to visit with their boxer, and her brother came with his dog, and Bosco kept attacking both of them. When he went back to the vet for a checkup my mom mentioned it, and the vet told her it was a side-effect of the prednisone.

  11. Actually, for once, I've been getting a few things done …………… the TV broke on Friday night (we only have one) so we've been all weekend without it. And while I miss it, I've gotten more done because I'm not sitting in front of it, watching NCIS reruns, and wasting time. So I actually got some windows cleaned, cleaned the fridge out and made a big kettle of minestrone from all the vegsI found in there, cut down the day lilies in the front yard, and swept the kitchen floor thoroughly (yuck!) Tomorrow morning I'll get some basic cleaning done for the week before we head out to join friends for a porch picnic for the holiday.
I've been such a lazy lump all summer that even accomplishing these few things makes me feel like Wonder Woman! LOL
Maybe I'd better not get the TV fixed until all my To Do list is crossed off!

  12. I confess that I am not going to clean my carpets this weekend. I had grand plans to do some canning and a LOT of cleaning…just all around catching up, this weekend. Now? Not so much. The canning is done for now, but the cleaning is getting scaled way back.

  13. I've had a lovely, relaxing weekend, I have to admit. I took Friday off, and now that it's Sunday night, I'm not stressed out because everything's done (errands, laundry) and I still have one more day off!

That said, I do have a funny blunder to share–I washed my favorite grocery bag (canvas, from Fresh & Easy) without reading the care instructions. Apparently it wasn't supposed to go in the dryer–now it's half the size of it's mate!

  14. Well, I can't think of anything to confess exactly, but I have not done much productive this weekend. Oh yes I can–I skipped church yesterday and felt kind of bad about it, but not that bad. My son has suddenly changed his sleeping habits the past few weeks, sleeping just enough less so that I have no time to do anything else other than sleep. At the same time we've gone back to work teaching, and I'm tired from getting up so early and staying up late to get ready. Consequently, I've been really tired lately. On the other hand, we've enjoyed some family time this weekend with my nephew and his wife Saturday, then in the Jeep and such Sunday, so that's nice.

  15. we got the lawn mowed on Friday and finally finished our mulching project (started in MAY) on Saturday morning. Spent the rest of the weekend doing absolutely NOTHING and loving it. Truly a holiday weekend. Now it's laundry day – ick!
