In New Jersey, PSE&G came out to our house to do an audit. They changed our light bulbs in five rooms, caulked with silacone around all the windows the outside sill where the concrete meets the wood, and around the duct work in the basement: the seams:, they also put in these insullating foam forms inside the outlets and light switches. I cannot believe the difference that those little foam forms make. Without them you can feel the cold air coming in the electrical outlet. This they did for free.

In Lexington, KY last year I had an energy audit, I think through Kentucky Utilities. It cost $15 and I received 4 CFL bulbs, a low flow shower head, sink faucet aerators for all sinks, a blanket for the water heater and insulation to block the chimney. Heckuvadeal!

BTW, there was much work to be done and I asked the auditor to prioritize the list based on what would provide the best return on investment. So I also got a prioritized list of things to improve the energy efficiency of my home.

In Iowa, if you have MidAmerican Energy and complete an online audit, they will mail you one CFL.

I don't have a blog but would like to share... southern california edison offers you a $50 check to come pick up your old, energy inefficient, working refrigerator. If you email me we can set it up so I can get a $20 gift card for referring you!
