    Stay Cool, Stay Cool

I don’t know about y’all, but it’s HOT here. It got up to 110 degrees today. It’s ridiculous. My air conditioner can’t keep up.  I’ve been taking about 100 showers a day (okay, I took three today), loading up on water and lemonade slushes, and sitting in front of a fan. Here’s a post I wrote about keeping cool.

How are you keeping cool? Got any tips or tricks for us? We’d love to hear them.

Also, since Heather’s busy with Miss Elizabeth, y’all are stuck with just me for awhile. Got any burning home ec questions? Want to bombard me with stupid questions? Email me at either helpme@home-ec101.com or badbadivy@gmail.com and I’ll get them answered. Don’t ask any complex cooking questions, though, or you’ll end up with wrong answers, most likely. ;)

I’ve been filling up J’s wading pool and just plunking myself down in it to keep cool. I’d go to the community pool, but the water is as warm as bathwater so it doesn’t do any good.

I’m a big fan of frozen grapes. And cold showers.

The greatest improvement ever for a shady deck is having your handyman install a ceiling fan. (Obviously I have a roof overhang so it was possible.)

To pull a cord and produce a needed breeze in August is awesome.

If you’re going to be outside doing yardwork or something, or are at least somewhere where you don’t care much what you look like, wet a bandanna and tie it around your hair (kinda like a doo-rag). The evaporation of the water does wonders for keeping you cool.

Also, put your heels in a bowl of ice water. It sounds crazy, but it works.
