Remedial cleaning?

by Heather on May 21, 2007

Dear Home Ec 101:

Growing up my mother did all the household chores and found us more of a hindrance than a help, so she never taught us how to do anything. I went to college, got married straight out of the dorm, and have had a cleaning woman ever since. This winter our circumstances changed. We had to drastically cut back and I’m now realizing I don’t even know where to begin! I have a college degree, but I feel in over my head. I am expecting another baby and don’t know where to start. I need all the how-tos: dusting, mopping, sweeping. Is there a right way to do things? A schedule I should follow?

Help me, I’m lost!

Man, do I ever feel your pain. Letting the cleaning lady go was the most horrible thing I ever did in my life. Oh, wait. I’m the cleaning lady. I so should not have fired me her.

All kidding aside, it’s funny you should ask this question right now because Heather and I were totally thinking about starting up a Cleaning 101 series. This site was built on basics like that.

So, to make a long story post short,  go check out this post I wrote over at Curbly, and stay tuned for the Cleaning 101 series!

Very intresting article thanks for sharing

My cleaning tip....place an old pillowcase over the head of a broom to clean and reach all corners of cob webs from your walls and ceiling. I'm really short so I'm speaking from experience. Pam

OH YAY! Please do the Cleaning 101 series so I know at least what to teach my daughters. :)

Oh wow...great link. Thank you. Here I had 3 large cabinets full of cleaning supplies and no idea how to use them. Now I know what really works. Not much needed for basics is there. Interesting.
