The best way to clean diarrhea would be the following:
1. Wear some gloves and get a plastic bag to remove everything you can.
2. Mix water with white vinegar and put it directly into the carpet to clean as much as possible.
3. Use paper towel to dry the mixture. Do not pressure into the carpet.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone.
5. Sprinkle baking soda on the freshly cleaned area. Allow the baking soda to sit and absorb excess odors or liquids.
6. Vacuum the area as soon as it dries.

When removing diarrhea from carpet you must act fast! If not, you run the risk of serious bacteria and odor issues later on. You need to remove as much of the diarrhea as possible! Using a cloth or paper towels is NOT recommended! The reason is because pressure or smearing will occur during the clean-up process. Also, it's best to have ZERO contact with the diarrhea! The bottom line, you need suction....fast! You can use a wet/dry vacuum to remove the diarrhea from the carpet. Most grocery store rental machines do not have enough power and will smear the diarrhea across the carpet. Therefore, your problem will be worse! Use the suction from the wet/dry vacuum to remove the diarrhea from the carpet. Do not rake the suction hose across the carpet! Place end of suction hose directly onto the carpet and extract. Use an anti-bacterial solution to remove the bacteria and odor. Typically, a mixture of anti-bacterial solution and warm water works well. Pour directly onto the stain and extract immediatley with the wet/dry vacuum. Continue this process until desired results are achieved.
