The good folks from Finish Quantum (formerly Electrasol) gave me a pack of their new formula of dishwasher detergent to try, and the opportunity to give some away to 5 lucky Home Eccers! But first, the review.

As the regulars know, I’m a fan of Cascade. So, when the Electrasol folks contacted me for a review and giveaway, I tee heed a little bit, but I was intrigued. This was supposed to be a new formula, with new packaging and a new name. But, could it be much different from the old Electrasol I was not such a fan of? Well, I’ll try anything once, so I told them to go ahead and send it.

Little did they know, I had a secret test for them. Not too long before they sent it, Little Miss Ivy, Junior had decided that one of our plastic food storage thingies* would be good as a paint palette. She did the right thing by loading it into the dishwasher, but did the wrong thing by failing to rinse it before putting in the dishwasher. Because I let her use real paint, the plastic thing AND my good Fiestaware were all stained. No, I did not cry. Yes, she was in trouble.

So, I had some serious stainage on my hands. I loaded up the Fiestaware and the stained plastic thingy, and because it was dirty and I like a good challenge, I tossed in a plastic thingy we had used to store some spaghetti sauce many moons ago. It was a lovely shade of dull red thanks to the sauce.

When the dishes were done, I rushed** to the dishwasher to see if the Finish Quantum had made any difference. I was also interested to see what kind of job it had done on the dishes in general, since I’ve had problems with Electrasol leaving food bits on my plates before.

The results were about 98% good. It had removed the paint stains from the Fiestaware entirely. It also lightened the paint stains from the plastic thingy to the point that it was only a very, very light purple. And the amazing part- it lightened the stain from the spaghetti plastic thingy to a very light pink. Sweet!

The only thing I noticed was that it hadn’t removed a bit of crusty burnt-on funk from yet another failed cooking experiment of mine on a baking sheet. Well, I probably should have rinsed it better.

Overall, the Finish Quantum gets a good review from me. I like that they are trying to reduce packaging by not individually wrapping each tab. I love how it removed and lightened stains. And I think it did as good or better of a job as my beloved Cascade.

Because it’s so fab, I’d like to give some away!
