More Americans travel for Thanksgiving than for any other holiday. So here are some handy holiday travel trips!
If you’re driving:
Plan to take lots of breaks. Kids just can’t sit still as long as adults can. (Well, most adults. I don’t think I’ve seen Heather sit still while awake for more than 5 minutes) Tire them out while you’re taking the break by making sure they have a safe spot to do some running around in.
Give the kids something to do. Give them a map and let them map out your journey, it will stem all those “are we there yet” questions. Bring some new toys that they haven’t seen before. Play the alphabet game with them. Whatever you can to to stem boredom is a good, good thing.
Feed ’em. Bring lots of snacks and drinks along with you in a small cooler.
Make the kids comfortable. Bring along pillows, blankets, whatever they’ll need.
Bring cleanup items. Make sure you have paper towels, baby wipes, all the stuff you need to clean stuff up. You never know when a spill or spew is going to happen, so be prepared.
If you’re flying:
I’ll leave the flying advice to my ol’ buddy Jackson Miller, who travels more than anyone else I know. Warning- there is a tiny bit of salty language there at the end, so if bad language offends you, skip this link. It’s really great advice, though, I recommend not skipping it.
Along with the cleaning items, I always keep a normal sized zip-top bag stuffed full of plastic grocery bags in the glove compartment. They’re great for trash, poopy diapers, anything slimy, etc.
Try filling an empty tissue box with plastic grocery bags and put it under your car seat. they are out of the way and available for a quick clean up. Pam, South Bend
