Countdown to Turkey Day: Nov 11

by Heather on November 11, 2007

Heather says:

The menu and shopping list have been written.  Now it is time to ensure you have enough serving dishes for the big day.  Are you serving buffet or family style?

If you don’t use your serving dishes for every day meals grab a stack of 3x5s or sticky notes and write the name of a menu item on each.  In each dish place the name of the food it will hold.  Ensure you also have enough large spoons, both slotted and non, forks, and a good carving knife

Cheap aluminum containers work well on a buffet, but they don’t hold up well to being passed around.  Clearance stores such as Big Lots often have foil pans for a reasonable price.  Thriftstores may have serving pieces for bargain prices, but the pickings may be slim.

Good luck.

Because we have limited space at the table, we usually do buffet style (not my preferred method) and I always stress about serving dishes. I have never given thought to the aluminum containers! And let's face it, it will cut down on the time spent at the sink after dinner! :)

I'm thinking paper plates and plastic spoons :-p
(ducking before heather smacks me...)
