Monday, Monday
Ivy says:
Why does everyone write the good stuff on Monday? Well, except me. I’m out on Mondays rounding up the good stuff and bringing it to ya in nice, neat posts. So here’s a roundup of all the fab stuff I found today:
- Okay, well, here’s a link to another roundup I did today, so I’m not repeating myself.
- How cool is this ten dollar pot rack?
- I’ve got giveaways going on here and here at Shakadoo. Tools and pest control, woot!
- Slarti, the unofficial Mr. Home-Ec 101 (no, neither of us are married to him, that’s what makes him unofficial) pontificates on why Americans love beer and liquor but not wine.
- Socially responsible products AND a Nashville connection? I’m so there, y’all!
For some reason I thought I had a crapload of links. But that’s all I’ve got, haha. I think it’s because of the other roundup I did. Go check that one out, y’all. Tomorrow, I’ll write a good post that all of y’all can link to.

I dunno, ‘link dump’ is making me sick to my stomach today, so it’s a ‘link pile’ instead. On with the links!
I just got a bunch of “imp’s ears” of various perfumes fromBlack Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I cannot say enough good stuff about these perfume oils. They smell like awesome and win, I tell ya.
I *told* you guys we were a couple of sexy mamas. Check these pictures where Heather rocks it out with gorgeousness. Of course, it helps that the photographer is the faboo Margo. Margo, you’re taking some pics of me when next I’m in town!
Meredith at Like Merchant Ships is always finding the most awesome places. Conveniently, Meredith lives reasonably close to me, so I can go to these places too. If you’re in the Middle Tennessee area, you need to be reading Meredith. Even if you don’t, you need to be reading her anyway, she’s one of my fave blogs to read.
Stephanie at Stop the Ride! has built an awesome rain catcher. Must write about this more in depth at Curbly, eventually.
Speaking of the Middle Tennessee area, have you seen the new MusicCityBloggers.com? Check out who the CEO/HBIC is on the masthead/business plan. Yep, that’s me! We’ve managed to collect a great bunch of writers. Even if you’re not in the Middle TN area, you might find some interesting stuff here.
What’s on your mind, Home-Ecers? Got any links we need to see? Let us know in comments!
Beauty by Ivy: beauty tips from the stars

I love me a good YouTube video roundup. I love it even more when it’s beauty tutorials. So as you can imagine, I absolutely love this post. Roll on over to Wise Bread and check it out. Best one is the MAC smokey eye tutorial, IMO.
Beauty By Ivy: avoiding the impulse buy

I read a good article at Wise Bread today that I wanted to share with y’all. First, if you’re not reading Wise Bread on a regular basis, go drop it in your feed reader, there is a TON of good info there.
The article du jour is about avoiding beauty impulse buying. You know, dropping a few bucks on a manicure because you’re feeling crappy that day, seeing pics in the magazines and running out and dropping big wads of cash to make you beautiful. Yep, I’ve done it more times than I care to admit.
Like I’ve said, I’ve never found a beauty item I didn’t want to buy, so I can relate. There are a lot of ways to avoid this, I’ve found. Like never, ever, ever going to the cosmetics section of the store unless you actually need to buy something. Same with going to the MAC counter. I have to physically restrain myself, so I tend to try to shop malls that don’t have a MAC counter anymore. Does it work? Eh, kinda.
I’ve also found using homemade versions of the expensive stuff works really well to satiate my beauty longings. An oatmeal facial is a fab exfoliator and is great for my oily skin. MakeYourOwnCosmetics.com has saved me fortunes on buying cosmetics since I found it, I tell ya.
So go forth, and spend no more on impulse beauty buys!
