Not sure I can blame my spouse, as he got this dumped on him at the last minute also. I get a call at work asking if I would like to go with him to a big company dinner in four days. His division is supposed to send at least two couples, and the VP and director have other plans. He has already arranged for his parents to watch the kids. Oh, by the way, it is BLACK TIE FORMAL and it is March. I wear high heels about two times a year, and I'm supposed to come up with formal evening wear in four days? Do you know what the pickings look like for formal evening wear in the department stores in March? It's not great, as the stores are gearing up for spring prom season and NOT winter evening wear. I settled on a dress more suited for spring than winter, but I didn't feel too out of place as about a quarter of the women there looked like they were in the same boat.

How about this one? Dont get me wrong, I am a big one for reuse and repurpose, but he needs to give me a break. We were on a kick a couple years back with boxed wines. He saved every single wine bladder "just in case we need them". We already had 30 gallon containers for water and about another 30 more "just in case". He saves every single pill bottle. Does one really need 4 big boxes full of them? Not to mention the thousands..Im not kidding.. rubber bands, twist ties, bottle caps{?}, marbles, ect. ect. ect! Why? is what I ask. Im glad its all in his shed so I dont have to look at it. Now if only he would do something with all this stuff instead of just storing it.

Mine loves to keep EVERYTHING!!! At one point, just a few weeks after he had a liver transplant he purchased three condos. Three condos that he couldn't renovate (but of course I could.) He told me it would be a good project for me. Ha! Like taking care of him wasn't a project in and of itself. The time when he bought the condos we were two people without a job between us with 5 mortgages. We are not part of the foreclosure market, just to let everyone know. We rent our condos to other transplant patients now and live in one.I drive my husband crazy with my talking to the computer or the TV or the radio. I'm sure there's more, but that is a big one.

My husband buys property. Mine is a tinkerer. If it involves machinery, electricity, fire, chemicals, or explosives, he has to mess with it. And he's absent-minded and forgets steps. He's set stuff on fire, blown stuff up, and pulled a number of other equally dramatic and dangerous stunts. The incident today didn't look dramatic on the exterior, but literally could have blown up in my face.Fortunately for him, I'm even more of a tinkerer than he is. It's just that my tinkering usually doesn't involve things that have lethal potential, and I'm a lot less sure of what I'm doing, so I'm more careful. I deal with his "old-timer's" lapses by asking a LOT of questions and setting up zones where certain activities can and can't be done.

Oh, you would have to bring up this topic today. We've been asking them to stop asking for unneccesary things and to stop and think before hitting folks up for stuff just to get stuff. The boys left for Oklahoma City to visit their mom on Sunday. We got the tax refund check last week (and it was more than we thought). My husband is going a bit crazy buying stuff (man toys and furniture). We got a lot of debt paid off (yippee!) but there has been a lot of unexpected local-economic stimulus going on in our budget! They'll come back on Sunday to a house that has a new flat screen, couch, loveseat, kitchen table....and lord knows what else.So much for "tightening the belt"! (But in defense of my husband....we really did need new furniture, but not a flatscreen!) I just hope the boys are happy we have it and that they don't see this as an opporunity to turn the "want it" button back on!

With the economic situation that is happening, nationally….we’ve been telling the kiddos (especially my step-sons) that this is the time to scale back and concentrate on the important stuff (family, friends, love).
