One of the local restaurants here makes an excellent soup called Wisconsin Chesse soup. There are potatoes, bacon, cheese and beer in it. I have yet to replicate the recipe. My first attempt was disastrous.
I also like Porkolt (hungarian pork stew) with Galushka (hungarian egg noodles).
Chili, beef stew, chicken and dumplings round out my list.

My taco soup, steak and gravy, chicken fried steak, chicken and dumplings, pot pie….the list is long. So many yummy hearty foods my family likes.

Pork stew from the crockpot or almost anything warm made with potatoes. Maybe I should just say potatoes!

I do a slow-cooker corned beef & cabbage (w/onions, potatoes & carrots). I add a cheesecloth bundle of pickling spices to the broth. My wife thinks I’m some sort of culinary genius for this recipe. I’m like “It’s meat & veg boiled in flavor for six hours, of course it’s going to be delicious!” It’s what I made her on our first date and it…uhh…let’s just say it scores me points and leave it at that.

What a good topic. We’ve been eating chilly weather food here now for the past month. So delicious! Nothing says comfort like a pile of mashed potatoes.

I made cream of broccoli-potato soup the other day when the temps finally dropped below 70…mmm.

Absolutely chili and pot roast are winter staples, also hunter’s stew (with venison, pork, or lamb), ham-n-beans, thick soups, roasts…and who could forget pumpkin and pecan pie with ice cream and hot coffee???

But this evening – temps in the 50s! – I made the decadent one: oven baked macaroni and cheese. Let’s just say it isn’t diet food. And yes, I made it with real cheese. ;o)

Hot coffees, chocolate and teas also any thing that warms the house. I live where it is cold and windy from Sept-June. During that time you can find lots of baked goods in the house and either the crock or the oven full of something for supper. Stew and frech white bead is the favorite cold weather meal and it is only made when it is cold out.

Yummy, I love potato soup. I make a baked potato soup and it is perfect for a cold weather dinner. I also enjoy chicken pot pie, stew, vegetable barley soup, and hot chocolate and popcorn
